In Erie, PA there is a restaurant that serves Smith's hot dogs with "Greek Sauce". It's life changing. Really. What is Greek Sauce? It's basically chili without the beans... except better. The sauce starts out like most other chili recipes. You have your ground beef/ tomato sauce base and spices. However, there's a weird difference. Mustard. I've never seen it in any chili recipe before but I'm telling you, it does something amazing to the sauce. It should be put in every chili recipe! Mustard for all!!! Ok. I'm done. Moving on. You can either make this recipe the traditional way (without beans) and add it to your hot dog or you can add black, kidney, and cannellini (white kidney) beans and eat it like a chili. My family may disown me for doing such an unholy thing to Greek Sauce but it's worth it... Sorry family.
Is there any better food to go with football season? No. No there's not. Unless it's anything with crab... but that's a whole other story. I made this recipe with grass-fed ground beef but you can also use ground turkey or chicken if you're not big on red meat. The flavor will be the same. This is also a GREAT recipe to cook in a crockpot! Just throw everything, except the beans, in in the morning, set it to low and it will be done by dinner! Add the beans to the crockpot 10-15 mins before you're ready to eat if you choose to use them. You can also freeze this meal without the beans. Just make the recipe without them and freeze it. Defrost it in the fridge the day before you want to have it for dinner. Once it's mostly defrosted (a few chunks of frozen chili is fine) add it to a pot until it boils and add beans. Cook for 10-15 mins.
